Religion is a fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a group of people. These set of beliefs concern the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, and involve devotional and ritual observances. They also often contain a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

Ever since the world began, man has demonstrated a natural inclination towards faith and worship of anything he considered superior/difficult to understand. His religion consisted of trying to appease and get favors from the supreme being he feared. This resulted in performing rituals and keeping traditions or laws to earn goodness and/or everlasting life.

The true meaning of religion is “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Astrology

The Hindi word for Astrology is Jyotish – which literally translates to the 'eye of the Veda'.

Almost everyone has heard about Astrology and many people know what are Sun Signs. We also tend to read the daily horoscopes and other predictions that appears in various websites, newspapers and magazines. And, since this is a common inter-face that serves as Astrology for us – many of us think this is what Astrology is all about!

But, there is much more to know about Astrology. Simply put, Astrology is a science of the stars - derived from the Latin word - astrologia - study of the stars. In fact, Astrology is a very ancient subject and practice, and it has been practised globally, in many of its forms, since centuries. Astrology is basically related to the study of the cosmos, and how the stars and other planetary objects in the universe influence life on the earth. The predictive use of this subject is relatively newer, as initially the subject was used to study weather and climatic patterns, understand the causes that led to certain events, treat or get rid of an evil eye and many such other things.

The subject of Astrology originally falls under the category of metaphysics, and is based on the age-old theories of energy patterns, such as Reiki, Aura reading, Feng Shui, acupuncture and yoga. Actually, the gravitational forces of different planets have their own effects on the Earth, as well as on the people who live on Earth. Moreover, each of the 12 zodiac signs is a distinct combination of one of the four basic elements of the environment - Earth, Air, Fire, Water - and one of the three fundamental qualities - Cardinal, Fixed, Variable.

Since the dawn of civilisation, Astrology has been commonly used to understand and predict events related to all the areas of our life. Similarly, today Astrology is widely used for personal readings, understanding oneself, and to get an insight about matters related to business, health, finance, career, marriage, wealth, relationships, etc. Although different cultures share common roots in ancient astrological practices, they have devised their unique methodologies. Earlier, western cultures practised Western Astrology, whereas, eastern cultures practised Chinese and Vedic Astrology. But nowadays, all these are commonly practised and enbraced worldwide.

A person who practices Astrology is called an Astrologer. In the Vedic System of Astrology or Jyotish Vidya, such a practitioner is known as a Jyotish. The relationships between the celestial bodies and the Zodiac Signs, and their interactions are calculated and read mathematically. An Astrologer or Jyotish studies these mathematical cycles, the movements of planets and their effects of these planets on individuals, and predicts accordingly. The celestial system known as the Zodiac is divided into 12 Zodiac Sign – basis certain Astronomical positions etc., and are thus attributed unique characteristics.

The position of the Sun, Moon, stars and other planets at the time of our birth is known to shape our personality, affects our lives and predestine our destinies. Astrology also empowers individuals by helping them understand their inherent strengths and potential. Like religion, Astrology also deals with the concept of karma – the deeds of this life will shape your next life.

An Astrologer or Jyotish can prepare a subject's Horoscope – which is a mathematical Chart/ Graph that depicts the map of the universe at the time of one's birth, with the individual at its centre, while the Sun, Moon, and other heavenly bodies are regarded as that person's Natal planets or stars. An Astrologer or Jyotish imbues hope and optimism into the concerned person, and also suggests various remedies to resolves their problems.

They are Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Space. Earth and Water have limited and localised availability for the human habitat and growth.
